You guys were waaaaaaaaaay to easy on Congressman Bishop! Ryan fawned over his war powers answer. Challenge the guy! Debate him! Cut him off when he tries to pull bullshit! He hasn\’t represented the 1st district, he\’s represented Bush! He\’s a \”loyal Bushie\”! and I\’m beginning to think that Tom and Ryan are too!
To IBIS Drinker:
You’re right I fawned over his War Powers answer, I think it was spot on, particularly with regards to why the heck congress just authorizes force and doesn’t declare war. This little area is one which I have studied fairly extensively. Now the part of his answer that was just wrong was when he said congress should just stay out after the war has begun, and actually it is a tributary to the first point I made. With out a declaratio of war their is no clear answer as to what the divisions of the war powers are. Declarations of war are specific legal documents which alter the relationship between nations. Authorizations of force simply do not find recognition in the constitutional order.
I disagree with Congressman Bishop on a whole host of issues.
However in the case of how he answered that question I was quite impressed and pleased, and if I fawned over his answer it’s simply because I agreed with him, and if you wanted to call him on the answers he gave, next time call in!!!!!!!!
For the record, I’m no “loyal Bushie”
LOL. Anyone who listens to 15 minutes of FTP will know that. When the President is right, I’ll support his policies and when he’s wrong I’ll denounce them. Unfortunately, the President is having a political season akin to that of the Memphis Grizzlies- a few wins here and there, but mostly miserable failure.
Here’s to hoping he does better in the future.
