After a full year with long hair, I decided to get my hair cut today.
Having long hair has been an experience. It’s been fun to try something new, to get a reaction out of people and to have curly, long hair.
I’ve had people plead with me to cut it.
I’ve had someone insinuate behind my back that the length of my hair was an indication of a falling away from the LDS Church. The person was serious, but the incident was funny. We still laugh about it.
I’m pretty sure my long hair has kept me from getting a calling at Church, despite repeated requests to my Bishop for one (I’ll have to try again this Sunday).
My long hair has also been greeted and accepted by many.
It’s been a novelty.
A conversation piece.
A way to stand out.
I am very pleased with my past year of having long hair.
I would recommend that every guy have long hair at least once in life. It’s great.
I went to work at the Radio Ranch this morning with long hair. I left at 11:30, only telling Eric Frandsen that I was going to cut it.
Here’s my picture in the car on the way:
It was great fun to go back to work with the hair cut. People were pretty shocked and it was good fun. I didn’t tell my wife Karen about it, either. She came down to Macey’s tonight to meet me at the end of KVNU’s Full Court Press and she literally dropped her jaw.
It was great to see her reaction.
So…. did you like my Hippie Hair or Missionary hair better?
-Tom

Good thing you did this in the winter, so as to avoid a major case of haircut tan.
I like the new doo, but the long hair had character. I too am working on my flowing hair…I am about a year behind you though.
Right on, Jeff. You’re in for the journey of your life!
Sellout! You have joined the ranks of “The Man!”
Nice, dude, but did you leave Yonk hangin?
I wish I could have seen Karen’s face – classic. So now, rather than being a local-long-haired-dirty-hippie-libertarian, you’re a local libertarian? Ha!
I love both looks.
I liked the long hair, too. I thought it was pretty sweet.
And? I’ve always wondered if the church will ever commission an official portrait of Jesus with a missionary haircut.
(I swear I’m not trying to be blasphemous here, it just seems a little silly that they have prints of Christ with long hair but men today are heathens if they grow their hair long. I know all the arguments, but again…Silly.)
Love it!!!
Question now is…when will Ryan step up and follow suit! He’s starting to look like Grizzly Adams!!!!
If only I could have seen Karen’s face!!!!
Good look!!!!!!!!!!!! I join the others in complimenting the new look. I am knitting a beany for your poor cold Logan head.
Dare I say the new look is downright sharp?
Statesmanly, even.
Thank God. I don’t say that blasphemously. Really, thank God. Which one do I like better? Definitely Number Two. Some people can pull long hair off, but sorry, you’re not one of them. I think it’s hilarious that people equate it with falling away. If anything, it’s your smugness that will send you to hell.
LOL at Loralee’s comment. I’d love to see Jesus with a missionary haircut. But of course, he’d have to be clean-shaven too. And if the Bible is correct that Jesus had no beauty that man should desire him, maybe it’s best to leave him the way he is so people aren’t scared away by a Richard Nixon lookalike (or a short-haired Alice Cooper). Thoughts?
You gotta love a good haircut. Makes you feel clean!
The transformation is great, kudos to the artist and the artistry! He sure looks more handsome with this hairstyle he got.
