From the Salt Lake Tribune:
Utah State University will receive a $5 million gift earmarked for its College of Natural Resources.
The donation comes from the S.J. and Jessie Quinney Foundation. About $2 million will go directly to undergraduate and graduate scholarships distributed through the Quinney Scholars program in College of Natural Resources.
“These are our very best scholarships within the college,” said Jonathan Paulding, development director for USU’s College of Natural Resources.
Another $1.2 million will support the Natural Resources Library which also carries the Quinney’s name. The college-specific library houses more than 60,000 items. The rest of the money will be spent on development of environmental projects, along with the college’s academic service center, distance education and technological facilities.
The gift will be formally announced Tuesday.
What a great gift from the Quinney Foundation! I can’t think of many gifts or charities that have as much impact as providing opportunities for education at world class universities like Utah State.
And another tip of the hat to USU President Stan Albrecht and Ross Petersen, two of the truest, bluest Aggies ever. They have done an astounding job in USU’s first capital campaign, raising tens of millions of dollars in just a matter of months.
Utah State University isn’t just another University. It’s a very special institution that fulfulls an extraordinary mission. It’s a world known Carnagie I research institution where literally anyone with the drive, the will and the desire can put themselves through school and reach the pinaccle of any profession. At Utah State University, it doesn’t matter if you come from the right family or how much money your parents make or any of that. All that matters is what you as an individual are willing to do.
The mission of Utah State University is to fulfill the American dream- to allow individuals the opportunity for success to better themselves, their communities and the entire world.
Thanks again to the Quinney Foundation for strengthening that dream and mission.
GO AGGIES!
