Tomorrow night (Tuesday) before the Logan City Council meeting the Council is going on a “field trip” to visit “inner Logan” to assess how the City ought to proceed when the War on Property Rights commences May 1.
Some time ago I was told by a member of the Council that the only thing that would deter the City from proceeding roughshod over property owners would be “green power”.
I was a little puzzled by what that meant and asked for a further explanation.
“Well,” I was told, “we need property owners to organize, speak up and show up with the same kind of numbers that the environmentalists did for the IPP3 vote.”
The public is invited to attend the field trip and ride along with the Council on the bus. This is not a public hearing, however, it is an opportunity for property owners to be present and influencial.
Tomorrow’s bus ride through the Mayor’s Ghetto is perhaps the best opportunity to pressure the Council to change course and adopt a pragmatic approach to “inner-Logan”.
All of us that live in the Mayor’s Ghetto know that it is not blighted. Sure, there occasional properties that aren’t kept up like most of us would like. However, these are the exception and not the rule. An overwhelming majority of properties in the Mayors Ghetto are well-kept, tidy and reflect positively upon our community. For the City to punish all property owners to reach a handful is to cut off the nose to spite the face.
That’s why this bus ride is such a great opportunity for property owners in Logan. You property owners will have a captive audience on the bus as you ride through Logan and pass undeniable evidence that the gripes of the bureaucrats in Community Development, the Mayor’s Office and a half dozen citizens are baseless. While you look over their shoulder, the Council will come to the realization that the War on Property Rights is wrong and unjustified.
The bus leaves at 4:30 PM from the northwest entrance to City Hall.
