  1. Isn’t it, in some sense, moot, as Walker’s term expires this year anyway? If other names become public I could understand the action, but a complaint that culminates in kicking out a guy with only a couple of months left doesn’t make much sense to me.

(Ditto for the Dems in Congress trying to impeach Bush.)

  2. Tom,

Aren’t you being a little naive? Don’t let the involvement of Allen and Mascaro fool you into thinking that this is some bi-partisan search for truth. Allen and Mascaro are RINOs and are willing to help the Democrats score some points in the upcoming election. Here are the TV spots now

    . . . Vouchers . . .
    . . . Omnibus education bill . . .
    . . . Closed caucus meetings . . .
    . . . Underfunded public schools . . .
    . . . Bribes . . .

Anyway, you get the picture. It’s all about the steady drumbeat.

  3. Walker is the puppet. They’re going after the guy pulling the strings. Who do you think could promise a budget change like that?

    This might get interesting.

  4. This is nothing more than an attempt by the UEA and their proxies (we all know who THEY are) to get Greg Curtis out of the Speakership and Mel Brown in. Voucher payback 101.

  5. I really think the RINO/DINO labels are usually silly as narrow wings of a party try to define those with differing views as one-sided enemies. I wish more Utah Republicans shared my views on vouchers, omnibus, classroom size, etc., but share similar views on other economic, moral, and governmental topics.

    Jobu or others,
You are repeating Senator Stephenson’s claim that the omnibus lawsuit or attacks on other educational or ethics issues are only “political grandstanding.” That is a completely flexible term of motive that can be conveniently attached to any opposing view.

So my serious question is: In your opinion, is there any legitimate way to discuss vouchers, the omnibus tactic, closed caucuses, public ed funding (Though I agree this one is the most easily to “grandstand.” It’s more an issue of unfounded accusations and prioritizing pet programs than amounts for me.), ethics in general–the Walker bribe, personal campaign money use, lobbyist access, PAC loopholes, reporting deadlines, conflicts of interest, etc. that is not just grandstanding or a drumbeat? I don’t accept that those are unimportant or illegitimate issues to discuss in terms of who I should vote for and would like your view on acceptable terms of discussion.

  6. To Jobu-

If Curtis knows that the evil UEA is coming after him, why does he keep loading their weapons for them?

$40 million “loan” for the St. George airport
    Vouchers
    Salt Lake Real
Walkergate (forget bribery, how about even just supporting a completely unqualified candidate?)
    District splits
    Buttars
    Tilton, Morley
    Etc.

I believe there are many republicans who would like to see Curtis gone, who are unaffiliated with the UEA but just disgusted with the same old same old corruption as usual. Did Mark Walker win the majority of voters in his old legislative district? In Curtis’s district? Was it even close? No, it wasn’t. There’s a clear discontent there, and this was exhibited in a closed republican primary election. Throw democrats into the general election mix, and he has every reason to be worried. Greg has said before that his name recognition was low in his district that he didn’t need to worry about re-election- get his name and face out there, and his numbers would rise. I think he will find out that the more people know him, the harder it will be for him to not be tossed in November.
