In later statement to the news Spencer clarified his statement by saying that Jesus would support his positions, like the one on repealing tax cuts to help the poor. I wrote an essay some time ago questioning if Jesus was a communist. I think his statement about using taxation to provide for the poor is a perfect example of misrepresenting Christ’s call for us to be compassionate and provide for the poor. Because taxation is not applied evenly but usually through a progressive system it tends to STEAL from the rich to give to the poor. What God asks of us is to each give willingly, not to force others to give on our behalf. You can read my essay on this subject at at:

Tom, Buddha is a godless heathen and would probably endorse Osama bin Laden. Don't you know only Christian votes count?

Maybe Jesus called Spencer meantime and told him that he might not vote for him, hence the retraction of "I don't know if Jesus would vote for me."

Although Jesus is blond-haired and blue-eyed, he's not a US citizen, so he gets no vote, unless he goes to a liberal state that doesn't care about proper identification of voters.

Come on, it's been well established by the religious right that Jesus is a Republican. Also, he's too late to write a book. There's already a book with that exact title, as well as "God's Politics" and probably a slough of others.

I hope every candidate believes their positions would be supportable by Jesus.

Though Spencer made a political mistake in saying it.

Also, it's important to understand that Bennion was responding to a question asked.

On one hand, Bennion has a point. I mean have you seen Chaffetz's immigration policy? Not exactly new testament stuff there.

On the other hand, I'm confident that Jesus wouldn't be paying much attention to our political processes, overall. He'd have much better things to do (and that's hard to admit, being a self diagnosed political junkie myself).

Always best when we can keep religion and politics arms length from each other. A very, very long arm.

I think Jesus would vote for just about anybody (He loved everyone). However, he may be a little reluctant voting for someone who writes books on how Jesus would vote. Too judgmental.

Oh man...and I caught crap for writing that education policy throughout Utah history was not inconsistent with supporting vouchers. Yikes!

Jason? What's up with your candidate? He was just joking, wasn't he?
