GOP considering delaying start of convention

GOP Considers Delaying Convention.

This might be a smart move for Republicans, given the complete disaster that would come if they are doing their thing in St. Paul and Hurricane Gustav hits and makes any kind of noise in the New Orleans area. The image of Obama and Biden helping people with sandbags and evacuations while the GOP were up in Minnesota partying would be a defining image of our time. The GOP can’t, and won’t, let it happen.

This story is developing, so we’ll have to wait and see, but it isn’t a bad idea at all.

Anybody know how much $$$ is being spent on these conventions? It would seem like the Dems probably will have spent more than the Republicans because of the change of venue, extra security that was needed for the larger venue, fireworks, etc.

Doesn’t seem extravagant for both parties who already knew who their Presidential candidates were going to be?

I read between $60 and $110 million for the DNC not including the additional $100-$200million spent by lobyists and Convention goers in Denver. So probably between $200 and $250 million… DOn’t know about the RNC yet… but it’s a crazy amount of money…

Maybe the DNC should have donated the millions of dollars to health care programs or used it to help people who are losing their homes…

Well, conventions are one of the places where soft money can still be used. They can make it a party without taking away from TV-and-bumper-sticker money.
