Obama’s first order of business: Git rid of Gitmo
Obama Closing Guantanamo: Preparing Order In First Week.
Advisers to President-elect Barack Obama say one of his first duties in office will be to order the closing of the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay. That executive order is expected during Obama’s first week on the job _ and possibly on his first day, according to two transition team advisers. Both spoke Monday on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.

Thumbs up. I am one those who were pro war but have become increasingly uncomfortable with measures the administration has taken. Gautanamo is an ugly sore that needs to taken care of quickly.

If Bush would have listened to Powell and afforded Geneva Convention rights on those detained there, there never would have been a problem. I imagine that Obama will correct that issue too. I just can’t help wonder what he will do with the people that are currently detained there.

He’ll make them citizens, since no other country wants them…
Though I think he’ll just shuffle them off somewhere else no one knows about.

It’s probably good to close it, because the way the Supreme Court is going, pretty soon enemy combatants captured anywhere in the world will get the full panoply of Constitutional rights, including Miranda readings on the battlefield.
