As much as I would like to complain about Obama (mostly his cabinet picks), I have been quite pleased with him so far as President-elect. And predictably, Senate/House GOP members aren’t complaining much either.
Nevertheless, the complainers now seem to be on the other side, from the Democrats. I haven’t been shocked by the boldness of characters like Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi, but I do find it unfortunate.
Will Obama be turned on by his own party the way that Clinton and Carter were? Only time will tell, but it seems likely.
From the Wall Street Journal:

That entire article looks amazingly similar to coverage of Clinton’s presidency as he took office. Here Obama has not even been inaugurated and the news is already telling us that his presidency is off to a bad start. (Come to think of it, they said the same thing about Bush because of the “cloud over his election.”)
I speculated prior to the election that some on capitol hill favored Obama because they felt that as a new comer he would be a push over and easy to manipulate. We will see if this is true. Obama has a very strong mandate from the electorate which puts him in a powerful position for now. We will have to see how things might change once the newness has worn off and Obama comes face to face with the business as usual crowd in Washington.
