FF, I agree with you. And knowing a little more about the type of waste that is and would be stored at that location heightens my dislike for Governor Huntsman's 'veto no matter what' attitude. Moreover, I would really like to know (if the 2.5% cuts are factual) whether administrators would be participating in the decrease in salary. From my own observations, when there is extra money to go around, administrators take what they want, then pass the scraps left over on to the teachers & other employees. I would not be one bit surprised to discover that administration salaries are remaining unchanged with a few still receiving a little bump.

Fed, I hate to agree with that, but the money does need to come from somewhere. There is already so much pressure on our teachers to crank out kids at grade level and adding another half dozen to the mix is not going to help. Nukes or a lottery. LOL. I'm sick thinking of how this will effect our local public schools but we have incredible teachers and staff in our valley and they will continue to be fabulous amidst the budget cuts. I hope they don't throw their hands up and give up in the process, life has handed them a big mess.

In all honesty, I would like to see Utah accept nuclear waste and put the money towards funding education.

pk, let's assume they don't cut 100 teachers. the rest of that stuff is still pretty horrible. cutting salaries does nothing for morale, and 5-6 more kids in my kids' classes will mean they'll have 35-40 kids in their class. not very appealing.

it's time for utah to seriously consider finding different ways to fund schools. and it would be nice if the people FILLING the schools would actually foot some of that bill, instead of enjoying multiple tax credits and breaks for pumping out 8 kids. property taxes aren't enough, obviously.

how have other states funded their schools?
