USU students OK fee hike to cover $2M athletics shortfall – Salt Lake Tribune.
Brian Maffly’s Tribune article is online now (quoting yours truly) about the fee increase. I think he did a good job reporting on the overall issues and gave equal coverage to pro and con (as he should) and I think it’s fantastic that he pointed out the language on the ballot.
This comes at the same time that several reports continue to come in, both through text, in person and online about voter intimidation tactics akin to something you’d expect to see on the south side of Chicago. Reports of student athletes nearly forcing students to vote, looking over students’ shoulders while they voted and spreading misinformation are all things we’re hearing about. Students are telling us they were told the HPER building would be shut down if the student fee increase didn’t pass, that’s the latest one.
If you, or someone you know, were subject to these voter intimidation tactics, we invite you to call in to For the People at 4:10 p.m. tonight when we’ll continue discussing this issue, as well as bring you information from the EMERGENCY Board of Trustees meeting that was called with about three hours notice this afternoon.
