On Wednesday’s show, we touched on Gov. Rick Perry of Texas saying Texas might have to secede.
It’s hard to tell if Perry was just getting caught up in Tea Party excitement and kind of being like “Ha, screw you Feds! We don’t need you!” or if he was serious, but if he was serious…well, come on…how is this appropriate?
Listen. Things aren’t great in our country right now, but they’re not horrible. If we as a people have a problem with what our government is doing, then we should (and are) rise up against it. But talking secession is ridiculous. We should affect change the way we have to affect change, and that’s through the voting booth. Lest we forget, we as a people elected those who are doing things we have problems with right now.
If Texas wants to secede, however, let them. I think the statements from Rick Perry are borderline treason, and if he’d prefer to take his state and hook up with Mexico, well, don’t let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya.
Update: Here’s some audio goodness of the Guv.

Sounds like you’re just jealous.
All the sudden it’s treasonous to disagree with the Fed, huh? Didn’t hear anyone saying that when Bush was in office.
I say YEAH! Gov. Perry!
I didn’t hear the governors of Massachusetts, California, Oregon, Michigan, Illinois or any other deep blue state saying their states should secede during the Bush years, either.
Yeah, it’s a little extreme. On the other hand, Texans have always been independent and thought they’re their own country. If anyone were to secede, I could see them doing it.
It is definitely not treasonous for someone to suggest it. The states created the federal gov, not the other way around. Even in our name, The United States of America, it is clear that we are a collection of states joined in a mutually beneficial union. If a state sees no benefit in remaining in a union with other states, should it be allowed to secede? That is the real question. Was gov Perry seriously considering a push toward secession? Of course not. He was simply sending a message to the federal government, that states have rights, and this union is not a suicide pact.
I say let them go and invite Puerto Rico, Guam or the Virgin Islands to take their place.
Not Treasonous at all. Those calling him unpatriotic need to look at just how patriotic he actually is being.
He’s doing exactly as our forefathers instructed us that we must do if we don’t want to fold to the never-ending garbage thrown at our freedoms which they detailed and tried to preserve for us and tell us how to preserve for ourselves. Unpatriotic, treasonous???
They said it’s always been this way and always will be and you’ll always have to do what’s right to speak out against it, as the initial warding-off stages of govt scammers and enslavers posing as saviors of the people. They said it, not me. Regan said it too – unpatriotic, treasonous, borderline treasonous?
Calling him unpatriotic is insane and IS what is unpatriotic.
Lets get real and preserve our God-given (not Obama and friends-given) freedoms.
Just say no to scammers/govt “saviors.”
