Despite swine flu fears, Park City will compete in 3A sports tournaments

As you all know, the Park City School District was ground zero for swine flu in Utah, with a student who apparently went to Mexico for Spring Break being the first patient diagnosed with swine flu.

Because of all those worries, and with the shut down of Park City schools, the Park City High School sports teams were going to be kept out of the tournament which wasn’t really nice for the kids, but was meant to prevent any possible spread of the flu.

Now, according to The Salt Lake Tribune, Park City will participate in the tournaments. If health departments in the areas where the Park City teams are playing against decide that it’s too much of a risk for teams to play Park City, however, those teams have to forfeit.

Now that seems patently unfair.

I realize the swine flu worries have decreased significantly as it’s believed the disease isn’t as severe thought, but if there’s still a risk of people contracting the disease, then this decision seems unwise.

Am I still being too paranoid about this disease?
