In stores now: Throwback Mountain Dew and Pepsi.
I was at the store today picking up a drink before I got into work and decided to try one of these new (old?) throwback drinks.
PepsiCo is marketing the “throwback” Mountain Dew and Pepsi “for a limited time,” and the drinks are made with natural sugar instead of high-fructose corn syrup.
Let me tell you, they’re delicious enough for me to write a blog post about them.
High-fructose corn syrup may be everything that’s wrong with this world. Soft drink companies started using HFCS many years ago instead of sugar because it was far cheaper, easier to produce and left those who drank it unsatisfied, thus wanting more of the drink. HFCS is harder for the body to digest and lingers longer, thus contributing greatly to the obesity of America.
I’m sipping on one of the throwback Mountain Dews right now and I can tell you that it is far more crisp and refreshing than the “normal” Mountain Dew, and ounce for ounce, isn’t as bad for you as the HFCS Dew.
I’m excited to try one of the Pepsi throwbacks soon, and I hope that PepsiCo realizes they’ve got something good going here.
It seems that other drinkers are pretty satisfied with the product too. You can check out this blog post at BevReview.com, just scroll down to the comments in April and you’ll see what others are saying.
Get out and try one of these drinks. They’re just really something special.

I saw something on TV the other day talking about this, apparently the soft drinks made in mexico are that way (real sugar) , and people have been flocking to mexican food stores to buy the “mexican” coca cola and other drinks. Im not sure if I got all of the facts right, or how true it was. Afterall it was on TV.
That’s right, Chilli. The drinks you buy in glass bottles at Mexican grocery stores are made from real sugar and, like these throwbacks, taste better, IMHO.
Those Mexicans do soda right. Who’s down with the “Jaritos” ?
