For consideration.
From the DHS report on right-wing violence.
Rightwing extremism in the United States can be broadly divided into those groups, movements, and adherents that are primarily hate-oriented (based on hatred of particular religious, racial or ethnic groups), and those that are mainly antigovernment, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or rejecting government authority entirely. It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration.
From the weekend headlines.
WICHITA, Kansas — Dr. George Tiller, a Kansas doctor whose clinic received national attention for performing late-term abortions, was shot to death as he entered his Wichita church on Sunday.“Members of the congregation who were inside the sanctuary at the time of the shooting were being kept inside the church by police,” the Wichita Eagle reported, “and those arriving were being ushered into the parking lot.”
Media reports said the suspected killer fled the scene in a blue Taurus. Police described him as a white male in his 50s or 60s.
Tiller has been among the few U.S. physicians performing late-term abortion, making him a favored target of anti-abortion protesters. He testified that he and his family have suffered years of harassment and threats. His clinic was the site of the 1991 “Summer of Mercy” protests marked by mass demonstrations and arrests. His clinic was bombed in 1985, and an abortion opponent shot him in both arms in 1993.
Tiller’s clinic also provided group and individual counseling, as well as chaplain and funeral services for people who were grieving.
From a statement issued by Tiller’s family.
Today we mourn the loss of our husband, father and grandfather. Today’s event is an unspeakable tragedy for all of us and for George’s friends and patients. This is particularly heart wrenching because George was shot down in his house of worship, a place of peace.We would like to express the family’s thanks for the many messages of sympathy from our friends and from all across the nation. We also want to thank the law enforcement officers who are investigating this crime.
Our loss is also a loss for the City of Wichita and women across America. George dedicated his life to providing women with high-quality heath care despite frequent threats and violence. We ask that he be remembered as a good husband, father and grandfather and a dedicated servant on behalf of the rights of women everywhere.
US Attorney General has dispatched US Marshals to protect abortion clinics and doctors throughout the country in light of the shooting.
UPDATE: Balloon Juice’s John Cole elaborates on connecting the dots.

“Jeff P, its good to see the whole sidetrack gang singing the same tune, but you still didnt address which side Ayers supports”…
Pot.Kettle.Black.
@chilli
Well, the Ayers mention was a fairly inane, irrelevant, and obviously desperate attempt to distract from accountability for your own statements here. It’s an expected routine from someone holding the indeffensible side of a losing argument. You didn’t address the fact that you have owned, fully, the lunatic side of this issue. Palling around with domestic terrorists. Idolozing them. Defending them. “Not condoning,” but also only a feable minded hair away from condoning them.
Jeff – Im sorry. The scope of this argument is clearly above your level of intelligence. The conclusions you are drawing are in crayon, and wayyyyyyyyy outside the lines of logic. Once again, at the sidetrack 2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2=4
“Palling around, idolizing them, ect.”
Really? Are you trying out for the Huffington Post or what.
Chilli, grow up man. I embarrassed for you, and I have a high threshold for childishness on the internet.
None of your firey rhetoric or immature insults changes the fact that you have all but condoned the murder of a human being, because in your eyes it’s defensible since he was a “baby killer.”
I’m not offended at your childish insults so much as encouraged by them. It at least implies you realize the wrongness of what you have written here, and see no other option but to go junior-high rather than attempt to further explain what is a shameful and inhumane attitude to have toward Tiller’s murder.
Jeff, Im not backing down at all, here is my original statement for the 3rd time. I still stand behind it.
@chilli
Believe me, I’m not accusing you of backing down, I’m accusing you of holding the same beliefs as these lunatics that bomb abortion clinics and shoot abortion doctors, and refusing to condemn their behavior because they’re killing “baby killers.” The idiocy of that isn’t much worth discussing, so I write this more so others following this thread will realize the connection between people who speak as you do and lunatics who kill in the name of God.
How do you know what beliefs I hold? Isnt it arrogant of you to assume you know all about me and what I believe just because of the fact I feel no personal grief that Tiller got shot?
I dont feel bad that George Tiller got shot.
I didnt feel bad when I learned Hitler put a bullet in his head.
I didnt feel bad when Sadam Hussein was hung.
I didnt feel bad when Pol Pot Died.
I didnt feel bad when Slobodan Milosevic Died.
I didnt feel bad when Idi Amin died.
I wont feel bad when Fidel Castro dies.
I wont feel bad when Kim Jong dies.
If that makes me extremist, so be it.
It does, and yeah, so be it. As long as you admit it. And you know who else was an extremist who supported killing in the name of God? Bin Laden.
Want to talk about what comparing Tiller to Hitler makes you now?
@chilli
The Guy didn’t ‘KILL’ Tiller, he aborted him in the 88th Trimester, totally legal.
Chilli is 75 years old?
Harry – Once again, people dont read what I wrote.
I wrote “learned” , you know, like in school?
Chilli,
After you left the chat room, I spent 45 minutes in your defense in a vain attempt to teach Jason Williams what quotations are. I earned a little street cred from you today!
