  1. oh no! one show that doesn’t fall in step with Hannity and Rush? The end of the world!!!

    To each their own.

  2. … nobody has to listen if they don’t want to.

I don’t mind hearing ideas that don’t agree with my own, but it seems to be human nature to only want to hear things that validate your own world view.

I would like to hear how Obama has become king, and what that means exactly. Last time I checked, he was elected as president, but I guess that people want to spread fear and loathing, and since calling him Nazi gets debunked really quickly, moving on to calling him a king seems perfectly natural.

  3. I think you’re right Tyson, it’s human nature.

When Bush was elected to his second term, there were several groups about as organized and focused as the more unhinged factions of the “tea parties” on “the left” warning that Bush wouldn’t step down, that he was going to enact an executive emergency in 2008 to serve a third term, and suspend elections. I talked with several spokespeople of that “movement” at the time, and what always intrigued me was how convinced they were of what they had decided was truth. Some just can’t accept that ideas different than theirs put a person in the White House, so you see the Birther movement attempting to undermine the legitimacy of the election, and you see the conspiracy theorists trumping up even the most unsubstantiated claims to explain it to themselves. “I can’t be out of step with the majority, so obviously something sinister is afoot. Quick, everybody panic!” When in reality, Bush, like Obama now, was just a man with a plan that he/they feel is the best direction for the country at the time.

It’s our nature to run away from ideas we don’t agree with, or that challenge us, and it’s unfortunate. Being challenged is the only way to learn and grow. If we shut out all opposing ideas, and only get our information from sources that reinforce our preconceived ideas, we insulate ourselves from education.

It’s sad to hear that even one person would walk away from the opportunity to call in and challenge any idea they hear from Marc, Tyler or myself on FTP. It’s what the show is all about.

  4. Jason,

Most people (regardless of party) aren’t prepared to “challenge” ideas they disagree with. Allowing yourself to be programmed and instructed on your opinions is the path of least resistance.

  5. @Jason Williams

Sometimes people feel like they don’t have a voice, even given option to call in. I’m referring to the fact that there are many people out there who know what they see, feel, and believe, but cannot articulate it satisfactorily. I can understand frustration in this case, and those of you that tout the concept of accepting challenging opinions aught to try that one.

That said, I really hope that person continues to listen to the show and takes some steps toward participation rather than deciding not to listen simply because he or she doesn’t agree.

I think you’re spot on here, Jason.
