The President and a large portion of his divided party are intent on passing their “health care reform” bill, despite the strong public opposition to the plan.
As more and more information about the thousand-page bill comes forth, the majority of Americans are deciding that the reforms aren’t for them, and for a myriad of reasons.
Not long ago, Gallup found that more Americans disapprove than approve of the President on the issue of healthcare. And while most Americans believe that reforms should take place, they “vary on urgency.” Even more recently, Gallup reported that 2/3rds of Americans believe that Congress do not have a good understanding of the healthcare issue itself.
Along with Gallup, Rasmussen has discovered similar trends. For example, today’s headline from the polling company reads: “Just 23% Believe Healthcare Costs Will Go Down If Reform Passes Congress.” This revelation, coupled with a recent Rasmussen poll finding that most Americans feel that healthcare is the least important one of Obama’s four budget priorities, is telling of a national mood.
Considering the mounting opposition to the proposed healthcare reform, it is strange to see the President continue to flail himself against detractors, and to no avail. In doing so, he is descending to new levels and alienating members of his party and entire segments of society. Just today, for example, the President has formulated a new talking-point by telling the public that the economic recovery of the entire country depends on the passage of healthcare reform (beware of the spin on that one!). Not to mention, President Obama is busy lambasting “greedy” insurance companies and even doctors for their shameful influence on the US healthcare industry.
The high school-level drama continues and is no more apparent than within the Democratic party itself as Democrats find new enemies within their own ranks, “villians” who dare to oppose party leadership. If anything, these events display something outrageously ironic. This party is losing control of the healthcare debate, and the more that the President and his Democrats try to regain lost ground, the further the country retreats.
Aside from sheer stubborness, it also demostrates the President’s unyielding arrogance. For a man who claims to represent all Americans and has promised to lead the country in a “new direction,” this president has revealed himself as anything but. When it is obvious that most of your constituents (and the constituency happens to be the entire country in this case), oppose your shoddy policy, it should send you a message that change, ironically enough, is needed on YOUR end. Or else you risk showing your true colors: a clearly partisan president who is more interested in his agenda than the will of the country.
But hey, with only 31% of Americans believing that the country is on the “right track,” what do you have to lose?

52 Blue Dogs = Divided party?
I think you’re jumping the shark a little on this one Marc. Not that I blame you, your party is divided over birth certificates and tea parties, I’d probably try to distract from that too.
It has been pretty interesting to watch this health care debate play out, though, on that we agree.
I feel bad for anyone who identifies themselves with EITHER party, and for exactly the same reasons on each side.
Federal, Don’t take the dearth of comments on this post as any sort of affirmation. I would take it as bullshit fatigue.
I especially like the way you malign the democrats because they do not walk in lock-step the way the disciplined ‘Party of No’ does. Especially impressive when you consider the big tent is big enough for even the philanders, child molesters and closeted gays.
We have the worse and most expensive health care in the industrialized world and the best you can do is accuse the African Prince of arrogance.
Hey, I know, lets let the Republicans back in power! Yeah! There’s an idea. We could drive the country further into debt and send more Americans to die white the Young Republican’s grow up to be good responsible liars.

Republicans, Democrats… either way, we’re looking at the same mess.
