Logan City Police Department’s approach to SB81 7/2/09
The Logan City Police Department values our partnership with all residents of Logan, including the Hispanic community and we work hard to maintain that trust. We recruit Hispanic personnel and we have many officers who speak Spanish. We have had a police employee on the Board of Directors of the Hispanic Center since its inception and attend many community meetings. We investigate every complaint of officer misconduct thoroughly and have a policy prohibiting racial profiling.
There are many laws and ordinances on the books, perhaps too many to enforce and we prioritize our enforcement efforts in the best interest of the community. Logan Police take a problem-solving approach to our public contact interactions.
We respond to every call and investigate every reported crime. We will not ask for proof of citizenship in our routine day-to-day activities and public contacts. We focus on conduct, not appearance. Race is always a fact but never a factor in our police activity.
We accept responsibility to enforce the laws and keep Logan safe. We are sensitive to the issues related to illegal immigration in our actions. We will not go out and seek persons based on citizenship and immigration status alone. We will maintain our existing partnership with Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel to seek direction when we encounter these issues.
We welcome the opportunity to serve all persons in Logan and look forward to working with all groups to help maintain the public safety and quality of life we enjoy here, making us the safest metropolitan area in the country.
