We’ve heard a lot about socialism creeping into our country, but if you need a true indictment of just how bad it’s got, you must…

    You guys are rolling out the funny from the interwebs today. Aaaah, it is good to sit back and re-examine how seriously we I can take myself sometimes.

  • Nigel

    That’s silly. Tyler, you and Jason become more and more alike, or you’re becoming more like him I should say, the longer you co-host together. It’s almost like you’re meshing into one ball of flesh. When I read first that excerpt I thought that it for sure had to have come from Jason.

    On a heavier note, I have lived in areas of the world where socialism really is prevalent, our water was unsafe for consumption, our power would go out without warning, the TV had naked people all over (including commercials for motor oil) *this may be counted as a plus for some people, like Tyler & Jason*, the cars were fairly good – but most people used public transit the likes of which they PAID for on a user basis, and if we go too far, communism will erupt and the government will just control what, where and when we can access the internet…kinda’ like China!

    Or Germany and the UK!

  • This has become an all too typical response by liberals who during the election denied that Obama would bring about increased Socialism but are now defending Socialism as it seems that conservative predictions have come true.

    To counter the calls of Socialism it seems that liberals have decided to redefine what Socialism is. (Rush played a clip today where a lib referred to Socialism as the new word for Niger! Are you libs serious?) Now I am not saying all liberals know or understand what Socialism is since it is obvious that few conservatives seem to have a true grasp of what Socialism is. But there sure seems to be plenty of liberals willing to spread the current MYTH that anything the government does is Socialism.

    If you conservatives need a test for what Socialism is, consider asking this question. Can the service being provided by the government be reasonably expected to be provided by the private sector? If it cannot, THEN IT’S NOT SOCIALISM!

    For Example: Roads – It is not reasonable to expect that all roads are privately held. Commerce would come to a halt under the entanglement of private tolls everywhere you go.

    Power – power like roads are part of an infrastructure need that transcends even rights to private property. These are called easements and cannot be reasonably expected to be held or enforced by the private sector. While the transmission lines into our homes must be publically held so that we all don’t have wires running everywhere with 20 different service connecting to each home, the generation of power can be reasonably expected to be produced by the private sector and provided to the government through a bidding process. This is why Cap and trade is so important to Obama, it puts all power production under greater Socialistic control.

    The Space Race – While now space is regularly being used by private industry, in the beginning there simply was no profit motive for putting forward the huge investment to get a man on a moon, but we all have benefited greatly from the effort, especially the private sector. Microsoft would not exist with the moon shots!

    The role of government is to help craft the rules by which commerce functions, then enforce those rules so that commerce can prosper with as little interference as possible. On rare occasions the government helps spur economic advancement by providing research in areas that don’t purpose instant financial gratification for the private sector but might have long term benefits In the end, under free market capitalism the government is supposed to be the referee in the game not be playing the game it’s self. When the government begins becoming a Player in economic markets, well that is Socialism!

    I will take time to discredit each of the points made in this ridiculous statement that was read on air if need be.

    Let’s get smart people, it’s important…

    By the way… How’s that Hope and Change working for you?

    P.S. Tyler… Insurance companies are not Evil! They are simply collections of people just like you trying to make a living by providing a product at the best possible price. Companies are truly neither good nor bad but merely representations of collective reasoning in an economic system. I wonder if your retirement account holds any stock in an insurance company. Would that make you evil tool?

    Come over from the dark side Tyler and put reason before emotion! (P.S. that is the greatest difference between liberal and conservative principals)

  • oh, thank god, I can finally go to bed knowing what that Richard Okelberry thought about this subject. phew.

    I hope my attempting to feed the fear of the USA becoming a socialist state didn’t confuse anybody.

  • MichaelR

    @North Logan Tyson
    No reason to fear such a thing – it’s for sure happening, but fearing it won’t make it any better.

  • Nigel

    @North Logan Tyson

    I have to admit that I was a little confused. Were you being facetious? Is it not a concern to you? Do you think that it can’t happen to us? Do you think that the people are too smart to let that happen? Or, do you want to head in that direction.

    You know, if all the “VIP’s” that swore they would move to another country if Reagan, then ‘W’, got in the White House would have actually followed through and got the hell outta Dodge, the country would be a better place today. But alas, it was typical liberal rhetoric; empty promises and idle threats.

  • I think that the one thing that many are missing over this whole debate is the fact that Socialism is incredibly dangerous and shouldn’t simply be shrugged off like its some new passing fad. Once you make a major Socialistic reform like this health care thing, it’s almost impossible to take back.

    It truly bothers me to hear someone simply blow off the charge of Socialism in this case as if it’s just a made up word to go after Obama with. Truly, at this point, this isn’t even really about Obama anymore. Socialism is EXTREMELY dangerous and will forever change our nation.

    What really gets me is when I read or hear someone discount Socialism out of hand or disregard it as anything that should be remotely concerning. I suppose this is a product of the must-have-now-4-me generation where any consideration of how our actions now can effect future generations lasts about as long as it takes to send a text message while driving.

  • Colin

    I hope we are smart enough to know the difference between socialist programs and simple government programs. Government involvement does not mean socialism, and equating everything the government does as proof that socialism not only works but is to our benefit is embarrassingly naive and mistaken. And to perpetuate such erroneous and dangerous propaganda? Shameful.
