This Facebook group, apparently “Fed up with Simon Cowells latest karaoke act being Christmas No.1?”, drove my favorite band into the winners circle, almost 10 years after they disbanded. Sweet. UK kids don’t need that engineered crap, any more than ours do, anyway.
Tom Morello: “It is a historic campaign to save the UK pop charts from the abyss of bland mediocrity and we’re 100 per cent behind it.” From here:

Social media. Saving the world one battle at a time.
In all seriousness though, it’s very cool when things like this happen. There are stories lately (growing increasingly frequent) of fans using Facebook etc to even pressure record companies into releasing material they hadn’t planned to (I think it was Fionna Apple in 2005… record company wasn’t going to release her cd, dump it on a smaller distribution platform so no one would get a chance to buy it, etc, fans pestered them into doing it with a facebook group and email campaign).
Love that stuff. And consider the cross over effect it could have (has had occasionally) in politics. Very cool.
