  1. My answers to your two questions:

Yes, and I would have the stomach to say it.

Health care is such a primary element of our livelihood, I would prefer it be placed in the realm of military services and law enforcement… two things that should never be privatized.

Xe (Blackwater) keeps me awake at night. Privatizing military operations is a road we will regret traveling down.

And no one should lose their livelihood because they get cancer. We’re a better nation than that, and it’s almost odd to see so many arguing we aren’t capable of providing such a quality of life here in America.

We can. We should. Ideology is the only obstacle.

  2. I would say that privatizing military operations is a road that some of us already regret traveling down. You are right that military service and law enforcement should never be privatized.

  3. it’s interesting Jason.

Two things that are criticized with the supposed Health Care proposals on the table:

    1) Obama will force you to buy insurance lest ye be fined.

    2) Obama will not allow providers to turn anyone away.

Well, without number 1 above, number 2 is like telling an insurance provider they have no choice but to provide for a house that’s already burned to the ground.

The point is, in time, each element will make sense and then true debate over ‘The Plan’ can ensue. We can’t make much of an assessment of what our Government proposes with Health Care reform at this time until we’ve been able to put it ALL together with reason and scrutiny.

  4. Miller,

If I follow your point, we cannot expect the government to nose in and efficiently supply something already being supplied through the private sector. On the other hand, the private sector can be expected to fill gaps where government provision fails … as in the Post Office.

UPS and Fed Ex fill niches the government cannot efficiently provide. (Yet I wonder to what extent the government crowds UPS or Fed Ex out of the business of delivering simple mail.)

I tremble at the thought of our government determining something privately supplied ‘costs too much’ so they’re taking it over. The government and rent-seekers who use it to gain what they want are not great resources for determining the TRUE cost of something. I fear that might be some of what we’re looking at with Health Care.
