For the People airs weeknights at 4 PM on 610 KVNU in Logan, Utah and online at www.kvnuforthepeople.com. For the People is anti-shout-down talk radio based upon principles of respect and pluralism where all viewpoints are welcome and will be given the opportunity to be fully articulated. Newsmaking guests from all sides of various issues discuss issues facing the valley, the state, the nation and the world.
For the People is special and unique not only in it’s format and decorum, but also in it’s community participation. We want our listeners and the community to feel ownership in the program and forum. We encourage participation on the air with calls, on this blog and by recommeding topics and ideas for the show by emailing us.
The host of For the People is Tyler Riggs. Tyler joined the KVNU team in July 2008 after working for more than four years at The Herald Journal in Logan, including 18 months as the newspaper’s city editor. Tyler has lived in Cache Valley for all but two years of his life, as he and his family lived in Thurmont, Maryland when he was about 8 years old. Tyler is a 2002 graduate of Logan High School and is currently working on a bachelor’s in business at Utah State University. In spring 2010, he will finally graduate and have bachelor’s in journalism and business.
Previous hosts of KVNU’s For the People include Tom Grover, who is currently seeking a juris doctorate at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and Ryan Yonk, who is attending Georgia State for a Ph.D. in political science. Both remain frequent blog contributors (and sometimes surprise on-air guests).
KVNUForThePeople.com is the online companion blog to the KVNU radio show. Keeping with the tradition of the radio show of presenting all points of view, KVNUForThePeople.com presents the views of several authors, without prejudice, provided they agree to certain community blog posting standards. If you are interested in joining the KVNUForThePeople.com blogging team, just e-mail tyler (at) cvradio (dot) com.
Because of the open-forum community nature of the blog, it should be noted that not all points of view presented are that of KVNU Radio or the Cache Valley Radio Group, its management or its ownership. If objectionable content compromising the local community standards is published on the site, you are encouraged to contact a site manager to evaluate the material and consider action. You can contact Tyler Riggs or Jason Williams to handle these issues.
For the People can be heard on 610 KVNU, one of Utah’s heritage stations. KVNU was Cache Valley’s first radio station and went on the air in 1938 when it was founded by Reed Bullen and his father. Bullen owned and operated the station until 1996, when it was sold to the locally owned Cache Valley Radio Group. KVNU has a long and proud history of serving Northern Utah, Southern Idaho and Cache Valley through local programming. In an era when talk radio is increasingly syndicated and homogenized from community to community, KVNU continues to serve the local community and retains local flavor. Current local programming on KVNU includes Crosstalk with Jennie Christensen, the Trading Post, Morning News, Afternoon News, Full Court Press, For the People, the Garden Guide, Focus on the Mind, Logan High Grizzly Sports, Coaches Show With Brent Guy/Stew Morrill, Play-by-play of Utah State Sports and Aggie Call.
