COHOST BACKGROUND, BIO: I was born in Provo, Utah, while my parents were attending BYU. I moved around a lot as a child and by the time I returned to Utah, we had made over six states our home (Utah, Wisconsin, California, Illinois, Missouri, Arizona). After earning a PhD in organic chemistry at Stanford, my father decided to attend law school at the University of Chicago. Towards the end of his studies, however, he was killed in a car accident, which forced our family to move a few more times and ultimately return to Utah. Despite his unexpected death, my father’s passion for learning and discussion had a profound effect on me, particularly his interest in history, politics, and the law. And it was because of his enormous library that I began reading political theory at a very young age. During high school I was fortunate enough to be a member of the debate team and take some AP classes, by which I met a lot of inspiring individuals. Two AP teachers in particular, Mark Smith (history) and Mike Rigby (government), became mentors to me and really pushed me to excel in academics and other aspects of my life; I could never repay either of them for the motivation they gave me. Afterwards I served an LDS mission to Joao Pessoa, Brazil, and within a year of being home married my wife, Vanessa (otherwise known as “honeybunny”). I am currently a student at Utah State University where I am studying political science and economics with minors in Portuguese and Classics. I am the president of the political science honors society, Pi Sigma Alpha. Last summer was fortunate enough to work for the Senate Rules Committee under Ranking Member Bennett. And currently I work at the Cache Valley Pharmacy as a clerk and Cache Valley Radio Group as a co-host.
